These are the most frequently asked questions about the Super Anode Rod.
1. Is anode depletion the only cause of water tank leakage or failure?
Water heaters can fail for other reasons too but anode depletion is the most frequent cause – it accounts for over 90% of water heater failures.
2. Is the SuperAnode compatible with any water heater?
The SuperAnode is compatible with most water heaters. The only requirements are:
Water heater must have a standard ¾” anode port and it must be able to accommodate the 40-inch length of the SuperAnode.
3. How long does each filling last?
Each filling may last from 5-10 years. Anode life depends on the quality of water in your area, hot water usage, hot water temperature and the quality of your water heater.
4. How will I know if the SuperAnode needs a refill?
It is recommended that the anode filling be checked every 1-2 years. To check this, unscrew the metal cap and use the steel wire (present inside the tube) to probe the tube content. If three-quarters or more of the tube is vacant, a refill is needed.
5. How can I replenish anodic material in the SuperAnode? Is it safe to handle this anodic material?
Anode refill cans will be made available from AirGenerate. Unscrew the metal cap of the SuperAnode and refill the tube. Ensure that there are no empty spaces in the tube. While refill procedure is safe and easy to carry out, exercise caution during the refill. Wear gloves and a nose-mask for added safety. Keep material away from children.
6. What material are you using as filling inside the tube?
We use a magnesium alloy (AZ31B) in pellet form. This is the only material approved by CSA for use in residential water heaters.
7. What is the size and weight of the SuperAnode?
The SuperAnode runs 44 inches long and weighs 1.1 lbs (500 grams).
